A special meeting was held to announce the results of the Capital Improvement Fee Referendum. Two residents addressed the board during member voice portion of the special meeting prior to closing of the polls.

  • Mr. Schein (Spring Gate) requested the board not do anything that would discourage people from buying homes in Brandermill, or that would add to the cost the seller would need to pay.
  • Ms. Michelle Gittens (Shallowford Trace) noted that many residents were unaware that this was the second time the community was voting on the proposal. She stated that she thought it would be better if everyone paid an additional $1.00 per quarter to generate revenue for capital projects. She also advised the board that several new residents believed the reason they were given a welcome tote was because they had to pay the original fee, and that perception was bad for the community.

The results of the referendum were stated as follows:
  • 3,836 “Yes” votes that equal 65.78 percent
  • 1,995 “No” votes that equal 34.21 percent

Because 75% approval was needed, the referendum failed.
