Highlights of January 21, 2009 BCA Board Meeting*

Posted January 23, 2009 at 9:51 AM
*Important Note: The below highlights are reported based on unofficial notes taken by NRC representatives who attended the above BCA meeting. Although we believe the above reporting is reliable and strive for accuracy, we do not assure 100% accuracy.

  • Due to the fact that Labor Day is a week later than usual, the 2009 pool season is a week longer than the 2008 season. As this added week will increase the cost of operatng the pools, the Board is considering a minimal reduction in pool hours and lifeguard coverage during off-peak hours.
  • The Board is reviewing its position regarding two proposed roundabouts or "circles" to be located on Old Hundred Road at the intersections of Brandermill Parkway and Market Square Lane. These County recommendations are based on findings of the Old Hundred Road corridor study conduct this past fall.
  • The Board continues to work on finalizing committee charters. To view the latest version of the General Policies for Committee Operations and the NRC charter, please see pages 16 and 63, respectively, of the January 21, 2009 Board packet.
  • designForum will be presenting their ideas for Brandermill on February 3 at The Brandermill Church at 6:00 p.m.

Brandermill Country Club Press Release

Posted January 13, 2009 at 9:49 AM
(January 12, 2009)
Acumen Golf of Chesterfield County is acquiring the Brandermill Country Club, according to principals of both companies. Acumen, which owns nearby Birkdale Golf Club, is also a consultancy company that works with a number of East Coast golf courses.

"My partners and I are thrilled about the opportunity to acquire a club of this quality and potential," stated Michael Hatch, principal and co-owner of Acumen Golf. "When the purchase is complete, we will initiate capital improvements to the property on the course, course machinery and throughout the clubhouse. We are confident that the members at Brandermill will love what we are doing at their club. Our plans for member parties, social functions, a calendar of golf and non-golf events, and a true environment of courtesy and hospitality will allow us to service our current members and quickly add new members." Brandermill will continue to operate as a private club, with members having full access to Birkdale Golf Club. Birkdale Golf Club will continue as a semi-private club that hosts a strong membership component that will receive some reciprocal privileges, while permitting selective public access.

According to Bob Dewsbury, President of Commonwealth Golf Properties, LLC, owner of Brandermill Country Club, "this transition is a very positive step for the club's future and will greatly benefit our entire membership in so many ways." Dewsbury spoke of the many improvements made to the country club since the current investors took ownership in 2002, including a major renovation of the clubhouse, significant upgrades to maintenance equipment and general upgrade to the golf course. "I'm proudest of what we've been able to achieve with the golf course itself," added Dewsbury. "It is recognized in the state and is the club's crowning asset. I'm confident that Acumen Golf will continue to polish and improve it and carry on Brandermill's tradition of excellence."

Acumen Golf Management will continue to be based in Chesterfield, VA and will service private clubs, public and municipal courses, and resort properties.
